There are 2 reasons why I was still able to get up this morning in spite of a semi-problematic GarageBand file last night (which, for many obvious reasons, resulted to me turning in around 4AM):

One is my OC button flashing on randomly because I really want to finalize this audio project and have it done on time. Not that I'm getting paid for this anyway since 'tis my 'baby' and you'll be hearing about it pretty soon. Gave it away right there huh? Yes, it's a new podcast episode which involves a lot of shite w3 (that's 'we') normally give a damn about.

The other reason... fuck me Big Daddy, it's about Facebook updates that's still pissing me off the second I was informed. What the fucking cheesybun is going on?! It's goddamn and atrociously WEIRD with a huge bold/italicized W that's a lot heavier than the W of Capital Wasteland!

Things are super tight here on my end, and so I'm scrambling to try to raise more money via commissions.

Construction of the studio is going strong, we have the workbenches laid out and most of the heavy machinery in place and soon we can get things fully functional again for the first time in six months. I'm very excited to get my own work bench set up! @A@ While I pick away at the last remaining items on my commissions list, I'm now open for more! Money is tight here, especially while we're still rebuilding after the move, and every penny will help with bills and holiday traveling and expenses!

Right now, Toronto is all "HARBURHGIDHGHGLLLLLGHHARUMPH!!!!" over the Toronto Transit Commission rejecting ads from AshleyMadison.com, that totally rad site that encourages couples to have affairs.* The TTC is poorer than Tiny Tim sicking up his ketchup-water soup, which is partially the fault of the union and enormously the fault of the province/country for not coughing up any kind of steady funding for a system that moves one point five million people a day.

Anyway, the TTC is kind of the enemy of the people right now because fares are being hiked again to a hair-tearing $3.00 per trip. Who can afford that? Not I! But I'm not about to condemn the TTC for rejecting the AM ads. Advertising supposedly makes up $15 to $20 million of the system's budget per year, which isn't small change. But something tells me plastering AshelyMadison's fantastic slogan all over the subway cars ("Life is short. Have an affair") wouldn't save the system like AM claims. Nor will I put much stock into the rantings of conservative newspaper writers who snort about how rejecting the ad means the TTC has relinquished its right to bitch about budget shortfalls. Hey guys, how many of you ride the subway to work every day? Didn't think so.

The reason I'm anti-Ashley Madison is because I've absorbed a great deal of dumb bus ads, and the next step is my death through advertising poisoning. The worst was a thankfully short-lived battle between the atheist group that plastered the world's buses with, "God probably doesn't exist, so stop worrying and enjoy your life," and the Church of Some Variation of God who bought advertising space for rebuttals.

The Church ads said, "God doesn't exist? Look at a sunset and decide for yourself."

Okay, I've decided that my grade four teacher probably wasn't bullshitting when she took out her teacher's aid, flipped to page 4, and explained to us why sunsets look awesome.

"God probably doesn't exist, so stop worrying and enjoy your life."

What if I believe in God, but do not fear Him or necessarily believe he's watching me pee?

well, i won't go into the usual race recap of how arduous the course was because you'll find it in the blogs. instead, i will just tell you what made this race the most memorable one for me.

i was at the second mile, just past the resort turnaround when i found my momentum. i was getting the hang of the hilly course when i saw this girl crying amidst a sea of runners. being a big sister to my siblings and an ate to numerous little cousins, i felt the urge to walk up to her and ask what was wrong. apparently she couldn't find her yaya who already gave up. at that point i felt a sense of responsibility so i decided to accompany her all throughout the race.

her name is jamie go tian, a smart, funny fourth grader from ICA. she drove me crazy with her little antics (lying on the cement because she got tired, then when a fast runner was on his way back she shouted at him "WATCH IT CAN'T YOU SEE, SLEEPING BEAUTY IS HERE!") oh, and she cracked jokes about corregidor as obama's turf because of the "BARRACKs", and hitting the steel railings with her makeshift walking stick which i got for her and mock-chanting "awaken, o ghosts of ye fallen american soldiers."

she was so funny and amazing -- she wanted to stop already because she didn't want to come in last. but i told her it doesn't matter -- even if she finished last, she did something no ordinary ten year-old girl could do or will ever do. and that her dad will be proud of her.

to do one's best in a race is rewarding. but for me, to be of support to this strong ten year-old little lady for 7 miles (she ran 9/10 miles as we rode one mile because she thought she couldn't handle it anymore... but found renewed strength when she saw her dad) is infinitely more fulfilling. what do ten year-old girls think about? hannah montana? nickelodeon? bah. jamie braved a hilly nine-mile course.

so when we crossed the finish line at 3hrs 09mins, this was the greatest reward i got:


a great big thank-you hug from my newfound friend. no medal, no cash prize, no podium finish can ever replace or top that.

if i could support a child to do such a feat every race i'd gladly do it in a heartbeat, any given sunday.

thank you jamie, for making me feel the profound joy of being instrumental to a child's milestone.

beats any other running buddy i've ever had. :)

First snowstorm hit Toronto last night. It even brought us a bit of thunder and lightning to remind us, "BITCH, I'M A STORM, YO." I'm not a winter person--I like it only because spring follows--but there is nothing more peaceful than snow at night, when you live in the city. It reflects off the streetlights and gives the world this eerie orange glow. Smart people stay inside and off the streets, so the snow remains white and unspoilt.

Problem with Toronto is, ten centimetres of snow is no excuse to stay home. So in the morning, cars pound the snow all to shit like an ex-sailor going to town on his new virgin bride. Also, the snow changed to rain, so the streets are now a slush stew.

I work part-time outside of the house on Mondays and Fridays. Thankfully, today is not a Monday or a Friday, and I just took care of a killer deadline. I'm going to chillax today, as much as I am capable.

There is a Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks marathon in my immediate future.

i was so excited to run corregidor. i knew i didn't have much hill training but i put on good mileage, did intensive leg strength training, and did some stair climbing (ok now i admit to training a bit but i just think it's tacky for me to share because i'm not really that serious right now, having the biz as my utmost priority for now)

saturday morning: my aunt and little cousins bid me goodbye as they dropped me off at the ccp ferry boat terminal. saw friends edward (the race director) marissa, daniel (who made this his birthday race!), allyn and the rest of the go tians, luis, his tito caloy and a few guys from takbo.ph.

while trying to send raymund a text (faulty signal that time) some bastard stole my wallet, my jewelry box (where i put my energy gels and extra hair clips), and my portable calculator. yup, i was penniless for the entire trip (well give or take 200 pesos from sukli accumulated at my purse but still... thanks bro for saving my life for the duration of the trip!!! i soooo owe you.

so anyway we boarded the mv bay cruiser -- fast ferry, but a little stuffy. ride was delayed by a full hour, and it didn't help that it was PAST lunchtime andddd MAMA SITA KEPT FLASHING ALL THROUGHOUT THE SCREEENNN!!! but ok lang cause the lunch awaiting us was yummy. well, a hungry marga knows no sucky food.

so we ate, hit the pool... raymund and i chose to laze around by killing fugly zombies and chasing flying boarding passes while luis, marvin, tin, the falvos, and the go tians took the tour. saw raiza and mesh at the dining area too!

oh and i must admit to have had a couple of cigarettes the night before. it was a very cold evening, and i was stupid not to have brought cold weather clothes.

it was a very relaxing day despite the initial stress. so now, let's get ready to run!

It's cold. I don't think you understand. The GODDAMN SUN went down AT FUCKING 5 in the afternoon. 5PM. The whole day was overcast and then the sun went home early. I'm wearing three layers of clothing including socks and a hood INDOORS. My brain just wants to go to sleep all the damn time. Against all reason, the more I use my hands, the colder and more rickety they get. They hurt when I wake up. This must be what arthritis feels like.

And it's dry. My throat feels like...there is honestly no way of describing it. It's like I want to drink but my body is saying you don't need water. It's so cold, you're just going to pee it all out. PEE OUT everything you just DRANK.

Unholy gods...I'm thirsty but I'm freezing. This is why people turn into alcoholics, the fucking weather. Fuck you weather.

I will not open that 40 in the ref. I will not drink alone at home for no reason.

Winter took its time getting to Toronto this year. It stopped for a bite in BC, paused to whack one out on the prairie provinces, and was held up again when Manitoba wanted to show off its cute new puppy. But I guess it's finally here, sort of. No major snowstorms on the horizon as far as I know, and the temperature isn't set to dip far below 0 in the foreseeable future. I'm very okay with this, even if I wouldn't mind a bit of snow for Christmas.

Nevertheless...we have winter Ginko.

Speaking of Ginko, I need to get caught up on Mushishi (you can halp, if you want!). I was just thinking about one story where Ginko came across a woman and her son who were waiting for the man of the house to get home. He'd been "away" for a few years, and towards the end of the story, they found out why: he was living with another woman and helping raise their new baby.

I've long known that human infidelity has existed since the beginning of time, but I'd never given much thought about how people ditched their significant others in ye olden days, particularly in the wilderness (where most Mushishi stories tend to take place). I guess when you got fed up, you just took off and built a relationship with someone else. Depressing!

no offense to my friends who have an iPhone or a touchscreen phone, but i just can't stand not having a palpable, real keypad to type with!

dad, being a true-blue nokia communicator purist, ditched the iPhone. he's not one to sell it (it was a christmas gift from someone) so he offered it to us. mom said no, brother said no, sister said no. so i gave it a shot today. after trying to figure it out for four hours, i gave up.

i think it's a sign that i am getting old. i can't seem to keep up with the keypad-less technology. first, i don't know what the difference between the E72 or E73 is, much less be abreast with all these phone models. for god's sake. i like my phone QWERTY thank you. texting with a regular phone is tedious.

plus, i have humongous fingers and hands. the iphone's touchscreen keypad is too tiny... the tip of my fingers press two instantaneously.

QWERTY is the way to go!

Been in hibernation of late. Ever since i've quit the museum, my life has less stress, ergo less rantage and need of an outlet.

I found a temporary income source in tutoring a German-Vietnamese 8-year old name Lukas and his 20-year old Vietnamese aunt. It was two months of work that kept my brain and finances reasonably afloat. My time with them has concluded and now i'm back to staving off panic when faced with the void of uncertainty. It's been a week of absolutely nothing to keep me occupied.

Seems like my life is on ::PAUSE:: i'm idling and hoping for the stop sign to change so i can step on the gas.

All this waiting for direction has pushed me to reach new heights of koala. I have made it into an art form this past week. My most pressing activity has been sleeping.

Reading Promethea on the train, the train, by the way, is awesome, I love the train... I made myself crispy bacon and eggs, sunny side up, with rice and a glass of fresh orange juice on a cold morning. You have no idea how big the smile on my face was.

I went to the Los Angeles Central Library for the first time ever. It was breathtaking. My breath? Taken. Just, you know, gone. The murals in the rotunda were sad and vaguely racist but I let that pass. I can appreciate nearly anything done with that much skill. I stood there next to the giant Christmas tree and stared...and spun a little. I mean, it's a rotunda. You'd have to.

Just a few minutes ago I found myself getting excited about watching a DVD. Ghost Town. It was a let down but that's not the point. I got excited. That's enough.

Last night I met some good people at a new friend's birthday. I was told that I'm sweet. I got a warm drunken hug.

My life has joy again.

Soon it'll have art.
